This course aims at raising a believer’s awareness about God’s uniqueness, greatness, and absolute perfection. It also aims at giving a historical context to some of the polemical controversies that developed after the death of the Prophet (peace and blessings of God be upon him) and led to the strife brought on by religious sectarianism. Topics covered include the basic tenets of the Islamic faith, scriptural and rational proofs and arguments for the existence of God, the first fundamental obligation of every human being, the godly attributes, prophetic attributes, and other issues. Based on the introductory chapters of the classical text, Al-Murshid Al-Mu'in ("The Helpng Guide") by the great scholar, Imam 'Abd al-Wahid Ibn Ashir.
Ustadh Abdullah bin Hamid Ali began the study of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the age of 17 with his first Arabic teacher, Imam Aberra----may Allah show him mercy----of Eritrea, a well-known private teacher in Philadelphia. It was a great honor and pleasure to be able to learn under Shaykh Salek bin Siddina. The Shaykh is unique in his traditional study of Islam for over 16 years in the desserts of Mauritania, and it is a miracle that we can access the same sacred knowledge over the internet.
The class itself was extremely beneficial and systematic in its approach to the prayer, inspiring the student from every angle to appreciate what most of us unfortunately find to be an outward ritual. What I found to be the most beneficial though, is when the Shaykh departs from the text to deliver insightful wisdom on our struggles in this day and age.
For anyone that is having trouble finding contentment in their prayer, this class is for you. May Allah extend the benefit of our beloved teacher.- W. Ahmed
